3rd Annual Women in Science
IUFRO webinar series

Welcome
In 2026, IUFRO will be celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with the
3rd annual Women in Science IUFRO webinar series.
To recognize the contribution women make to forest research, we invite you to three sessions highlighting the work of 15 female scientists.
This event is free and online!
Register and attend up to three online sessions.
Please note that these times are in UTC.
Session 1 - 11th February 2026 07:00 to 09:00 UTC
Session 2 - 11th February 2026 20:00 to 22:00 UTC
Session 3 - 12th February 2026 14:00 to 16:00 UTC

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations
is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists, which promotes global cooperation in forest-related research and enhances the understanding of the ecological, economic and social aspects of forests.
Meet The Team
Jessa Atta, PhD
Dr. Jessa Ata is an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños who has over a decade of experience in teaching and research in forest pathology. Her work examines fungal forest pathosystems, focusing on their biology, ecology and genetics to predict disease spread and explore the role of microbial communities in forest health and disease.
Kimberly Ann Domingo
Kim is a licensed agriculturist and an entomologist in the Philippines. Her work focuses on insect taxonomy and systematics, mainly on beetles, as well as pest management and biodiversity and conservation of insects. She also teaches crop protection, agriculture, and entomology-related courses to undergraduate students.
Angela Muthama
Angela is a forest pathologist at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute with over 10 years of experience specializing in plant pathology, fungal biology and integrated pest management for agroforestry systems. She is passionate about plant health and sustainable forests through research and driving innovative solutions to improve forest health.
Devrim Semizer-Cuming, PhD
Devrim is a researcher at the Bavarian Office for Forest Genetics (AWG) in Germany. Specialized in genetics, her work focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources. She has been involved in various research projects aiming to gain insight into the adaptive potential of tree populations to ongoing climate change using population genetics and genomics methods.
Joséphine Queffelec, PhD
Joséphine is a Forest Entomologist specialized in invasive species and biological control. She has been serving as deputy coordinator for the IUFRO Entomology research group within IUFRO Division 7 - Forest Health since 2021. She is also a Forest Conservation team lead at Sycomore.
Ariska van der Nest, PhD
Ariska is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Her fellowship is part of a collaborative effort (the RGE-FABI Tree Health Programme) between FABI and the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) group based in Indonesia. Her current research focuses on understanding the biology and mode of spread of a Ganoderma species causing Ganoderma root rot in Eucalyptus plantations in Indonesia.
